An Artist
"What does it mean "to write well"?
An artist--using the word in its genuine rather than childish meaning-is not a craftsman who knows how to evenly distribute "lively images", "telling details of everyday life", "colorful landscapes", and other trifles in his books; an artist is the one who finds a rhythm unknown before, and enlives and permeates the world he has created by this rhythm."
-Nabokov
There was a similar painting done more than a century ago (I tried to find it and the artist but failed) with the model's body bending in humility and melancholia and her eyes blindfolded, implying not injustice but a sense of lost esteem for herself. You needn't ever be, Nettie: you are truly beautiful and wonderful, I have no doubt.
It's so interesting...the responses to this shoot...all of the images. The shoot was very freeing for me. and I felt hot with rythem. i was rocking. I think that it's wonderful that it stirs something in people.
I finally found a link to that painting, called "Hope", by George Frederick Watts, in 1885. Here is a link to that painting, Nettie: http://artmagick.com/pictures/picture.aspx?id=5875&name=hope
and I, too, hope you can link to it and see it. ^U^
