An Artist
"What does it mean "to write well"?
An artist--using the word in its genuine rather than childish meaning-is not a craftsman who knows how to evenly distribute "lively images", "telling details of everyday life", "colorful landscapes", and other trifles in his books; an artist is the one who finds a rhythm unknown before, and enlives and permeates the world he has created by this rhythm."
-Nabokov
This photo has a sense of being quite tight. Though your body stands in a fairly neutral and somewhat open position, there is this sense in your expression of strength, even hardness or coldness that is reinforced by the wall behind you. The seeming simplicity of both the background and your pose imply a certain sense of impenetrability that may be uninteresting.
Yet if one looks at the photo for longer than a cursory glance there is the sense that more can continually be discovered within it. The background begins to become more complex in the flora growing behind and down the wall. Within the mid tones of your skin there begins to appear variation on the surface that implies the fascinating musculature of a human form. And the the face, the expression...one has to begin to wonder what is going on inside to produce such an intense look. So this photo may not in fact be quite so tight as it appeared in the first glance.
sigh!
ReplyDeletesoon though!
